Teach meet 2016- A students view!

On Friday we went to Mayo teach meet 2016. It was held in the Mayo education centre in Castlebar.

When we arrived in the door ,  the home felt homey and I wasn’t nervous anymore because I knew what I was doing.  I was showcasing how to take photos on the Raspberry Pi and also how to save those photos.  The teachers were the nicest ( but not as nice as Mrs Mangan ).  Chris was the man who gave us the BB8  to play with and Mags showed us how to make glowies.  All in all , the whole classroom had an amazing time.    Nora.

Now you know how fun it is, why don’t you check out the other students ideas and thoughts about the fantastic evening full of fun, teachers and exercise  ( QR codes with PE stuff on them).

Thanks for reading : Nora

The lusitania

Hey everyone,  yesterday at school we learned that 100 years ago the Lusitania sunk and at 2:10 we bowed our hearts were with the families of the life’s taken.  I wanted to talk about it  today so if you don’t know you will now know what is going on. Here we go

It all started in 1903 when construction started on the Lusitania and this took four years to perfect the ships inner design and outer.  Finally in 1907 the maiden voyage went from Liverpool to New York.  The Government had  secretly paid for part the Lusitania’s construction so it was rightfully theirs so they fitted it for war as there was a war going on.  On May the 1st 1915 the liner left New York for Liverpool.  It was only when a German submarine shot a torpedo at the ship that it all went down and then a mystery explosion happened and the ship started to sink really quick.  Within 18 mins the ship had sank taken the lives of 1,193 of 1,924.  The Germans in the submarine celebrated as they thought it was a big target and this happened to the Germans already.

I hope you learned a lot from that.                                                             lusitania-sinking1search                                                                     Nora

Mathletes ALL Ireland CHAMPIONS!!!!!

We were in DCU in Dublin on Saturday where we were amazed to be announced as the ALL Ireland Winners of the points per eligable pupil section of MAthletes 2015. We won a medal for being first in Mayo, A plaque for being first in Connaught and a trophy (which was left in Cork but we are getting soon!) for being first in Ireland. A treble, three in a row, a hat trick of the best sort! And to top it all off, we also won €750 of LearnIT Lego classroom equipment. We are delighted, thank you to everybody who helped organise Mathletes especially Kelly!

Mathletes All Ireland Finalists 2015 Top 3 Schools Finish

2015-All-ireland-FINALISTS-Announced_compressedWe are delighted to have been announced as one of the final three schools in the All Ireland Online Mathletes Challenge. We dont know yet if its a gold, silver or bronze position for us but we are just thrilled to have made the top three in our very first year of the competition. Well done to Shakira, to Nora and to Tiernan on all their hard work, now its time to get the rewards and enjoy a day out in Dublin for the awards ceremony and the big announcement which we see one school crowned All Ireland Champions 2015. Best of luck to our near neighbours over the border in Galway,  Milltown NS and to St Joesphs Clinstown in Co. Kilkenny who are in the top 3 with  us!

Mathletes Provincial Finals Experience

Nora, Shakira and Tiernan were all competing in the Mathletes finals in NUIG on Saturday. They had a great day with plenty work involved too! They first had LearnIT lego workshop where they made Lego Cars which when put on a ramp, they had to learn which could go the furthest! Next up was a speed test on Khan Academy and finally a written paper before lunch. Then they had the awards ceremony. It was today though that the finalists were named for the individual part of the competition. We didn’t make the individual finals this year but its something to try and get to next year! We will have to keep our fingers and toes crossed for the schools finals – we were in the lead going into the last wk, hopefully we will have been able to hold onto a top three spot!

Have a look at the Mathletes video about the provincial finals all over Ireland – you might see a familiar face!!

100 WC #week 26 Nora

Fighting with her friend was giving Lily a bad feeling and she was feeling lonely. Robin was being a grumpy  teenager and was always fighting with her. On Monday  when Lily was  reading ,Robin came running  and said  sorry but I need you to be my  friend .Lily felt goosebumps on her arm , she had found a new friend he was TJ and was in the kitchen  drinking  water. Robin cried I was kicked out of  school and I need a shoulder to cry on. All Lily could do was smile just  as TJ turned the corner  he ran away.

Honey the hamster

If you don’t already know we got a new school pet.we will be having  her for a month so here is all the info on our new hamster

  • We have to feed her every day
  • Clean her cage once or twice a week
  • Feed her only the hamster feed and other things
  • She sleeps at day and is awake at night
  • She loves to be handled but with care

I got her for the weekend two weeks ago and the whole family had fun with her either playing or feeding or even cuddling up on the sofa if she was awake. I hated going somewhere and leaving at home.

We all love her at school even people who were scared of her are holding her  . Wonder what we are getting next .

Thanks to Pet world for giving us this oppurtunity
